The Veterans Advanced Energy Project is designed to drive US leadership in advanced energy by recruiting, equipping, and empowering military veterans who understand the importance of the evolving energy landscape to our future security and prosperity.

What is Advanced Energy? Advanced Energy is defined by leading edge energy technologies including solar, wind, batteries, microgrids, advanced nuclear, electric vehicles, and end-user energy efficiency.

WHO WE ARE

Greg Douquet

Co-Director, U.S. Marine Corps Retired

Greg Douquet is co-founder and managing partner of Red Duke Strategies, LLC, (RDS) a disabled veteran owned small business whose mission is to facilitate the success of a select number of highly promising small and medium-sized organizations with applications in expeditionary environments. Prior to retiring from the US Marine Corps after a thirty-year career, Greg served as director of the secretary of the Navy’s Physical Evaluation Board. Greg also served as chief of staff for Marine Forces in Europe and Africa. Previously, Greg Commanded Parris Island. Greg held lead responsibility for strategic planning in Afghanistan under General Stanley McChrystal in 2010 and was the lead aviation planner for the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003. He is a 4,000-hour aviator and aerospace professional with deep experience in ship-based / shore-based tactical aviation operations, Presidential helicopter operations, and aviation acquisition. He is a fellow with the Royal College of Defense Studies, published author of multiple scholarly articles on energy and security related issues, and holds three master’s degrees, with distinction.

Dan Misch

Founder and Co-Director, U.S. Navy Veteran

In 2016, Dan Misch founded the Veterans Advanced Energy Project to educate other military veterans on global energy security challenges as a Take Point Fellow with the Atlantic Council Millennium Leadership Program.

Misch is a Senior Manager in Wind Asset Management at Invenergy supporting the new construction of grid-scale wind energy projects in the US. He previously served as a Federal Project Director for the US Department of Energy at Argonne National Laboratory and as a nuclear engineer in the U.S. Navy on a ballistic missile submarine. Misch is a Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, an Emerging Leader with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and a member of the Truman National Security Project.

In 2017, Misch was named to the Midwest Energy News “40 Under 40” and a “Call to Service” Finalist for the Chicago Federal Executive Board Awards. Dan holds a BS in Physics from the US Naval Academy and an MA in Public Policy from the University of Chicago.
