Denver Barrows, a Senior Product Manager at Amazon, is at the forefront of advancing electric vehicle infrastructure in last mile operations. Before his current role at Amazon, Denver worked at Amazon Air, where he led business-wide readiness efforts and conducted new product/policy due diligence. His expertise in these areas allowed him to contribute to the company's operations and strategic development.

In addition to his work at Amazon, Denver is highly involved in various fellowships and programs focused on national security and energy security. He is currently a Shawn Brimley Next Gen National Security Fellow at the Center for New American Security, contributing his industry insights and learning best practices and lessons in leadership Furthermore, Denver is an Energy Security Fellow at SAFE.

Denver's achievements and contributions have not gone unnoticed. He has been recognized by Out in National Security's Out Leadership List, highlighting his outstanding leadership and accomplishments in the field. Additionally, he has participated in Globally's Emerging as a Global Leader Experience (EaGLE) program, which has further enriched his knowledge and skills.

Denver's educational background is also just as impressive. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy from The University of Chicago, where he was named an AFROTC Distinguished Graduate. During his time at the university, Denver was also the captain of the varsity swim team and president of the men’s athletic association. To further enhance his expertise in logistics, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Logistics from the Air Force Institute of Technology. His research focused on improving methodologies for selecting transportation service providers during disaster relief events, which showcases his dedication to making a tangible impact in logistics operations.

Before joining Amazon, Denver served in active duty and reserve roles for seven years in the United States Air Force. He gained invaluable leadership and logistics operations experience in various international, domestic, combat, and disaster relief environments. His service took him to diverse locations such as Germany, Syria, Puerto Rico, Texas, and California, where he played a vital role in supporting the military's missions.

Denver's dedication to serving his country continues as he remains a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He served as a KC-I0 Pilot, and now is a Logistics Officer and an Air Force Academy Admissions Liaison Officer, reflecting his commitment to both aviation and mentorship.

Now in his role as Senior Product Manager at Amazon, Denver leads strategic sourcing efforts for the company's last mile electrification program. Despite being new to the world of infrastructure, his experience in supply chain operations and national security provides him with a solid foundation for building the power distribution networks that will support Amazon's ambitious climate goals outlined in the Climate Pledge.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

It would definitely be the ability to immediately recover from any injury. It would also give me the confidence to pursue my athletic goals and take risks without worrying about the consequences.

What are you most excited and concerned about in advanced energy developments?

I'm most excited about the potential for job creation that advanced energy developments will bring to our country. The prospect of new employment opportunities in the United States is incredibly promising, and I believe it will positively impact our economy and national security. Additionally, the advancement of clean and sustainable energy sources will serve as a unifying force for our nation, addressing both economic and environmental concerns.

How did the military influence your career trajectory into energy?

My experience in the military provided me with valuable insights into transportation networks, leading me to pursue a career in the supply chain and transportation industry. It was during this journey that I discovered my passion for clean transportation, and I owe it all to my military roots.

Why is energy important to US National Security?

Energy independence is a security imperative. With the additional benefit of reversing (or at least slowing) warming temperatures, clean energy solutions can help combat climate changes that directly impact communities across the US. The safety of every community inside our borders are vital for our national security.

Do you have advice you would like to share with other veterans?

I encourage my fellow veterans to tap into the vast network of fellow servicemen and women who are already excelling in their respective fields.
