Earth Day Community Clean Up and Picnic (Chicago, Illinois)

The Veterans Advanced Energy Project invites Chicago-area veterans to participate in an Earth Day event on Friday April 22nd and Saturday 23rd in the Austin neighborhood. This event is hosted by Clean Community (CC Solar LLC), Wecycle LLC, and Balance Solar

Clean Community, an Illinois Solar For All (ILSFA) approved vendor, is joining forces with grassroot organizers to prepare a two-day event in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. The event will start on Friday afternoon with a community litter pick up followed by a discussion on tips and resources available for community solar. On Saturday, a park picnic will be held to celebrate Earth Day with food and games, while continuing to promote opportunities for energy efficiency and solar resources.

We are looking for volunteers from within the veteran community to join efforts at these events. Military veterans are returning back to their hometowns after serving around the world in conflicts driven by our country’s addiction to foreign fossil fuels. By participating in events like this, veterans can lend their voice by sharing personal experiences while forward deployed—with fuel convoys, energy poverty, and solar alternatives—and emphasize the importance of adopting solar energy to build resilient and independent communities, keep our air and water clean, and lower electric bills—all while making us less dependent on foreign fuels and price gouges at the gas pump. It is important to share community and residential solar opportunities like ILSFA in economically disadvantaged areas that are traditionally left out of the conversation to help promote an equitable clean energy transition.
